Best gun for the money

first of all, I dont know a hole lot about buying guns. I love to shoot guns though. I have a few for shooting and a few that I inherited.

I just heard about all the surplus guns from around the world like russia and china because my brother got one for christmas.

I think it would be really cool to buy one, like a peice of history but which ones are the best for the money? Is there a really good type out there? I was looking at buying a russian rifle at big 5 for $115. That seems like a good deal, it had a 7.62mm bullet I think and it was built for ww2.

So what is the best gun for the money?

I got a Polish Mosin Nagant from Big 5 for $50+tax. If you wait until they have their sales you can get better prices.

I agree. A Ruger 10/22 should be in every gun owners safe. Reliable weapon that shoots awesome groups, cheap ammo, and lots of accessories available.

BTW - Fun to shoot too.

For a pistol, I suggest a S&W 629.

I can't hit my ass with a shotgun, so I won't recommend one.

I think first you have to decide what you're going to DO with this new gun of yours.

Are you going to hang it up over the mantle as a showpiece? Shoot deer with it? Go goose hunting? Carry it for your own protection?

Depending on your answers to those questions, you'll get a lot of different replies.

Depending on the sport wanted.

Long range: SKS, Mosin Nagant.

Hand gunning:

CZ52 or Makarov.

I've had some serious fun with a Russian SKS I picked up on the cheap. It was actually quite accurate and totally reliable. No idea how the Chinese ones are, though they are far more common.

The 10/22 is awesome by the way. I have one right now. Great gun.

I know TuffPaws from Hs2000, I'd endorse a Yugo SKS for a rifle, and a Makarov for a pistol. Both are inexpensive and awesome for a novice.

The SKS is quite reliable and can often be found lightly used (or sometimes even new) for under $100. If you want an idea of prices, try gunbroker.com

anyone know of any GOOD type of 'auction' site or purchase site for guns. You can't sell them on E-bay.

cuervo 12-29-2004 08:37 PM

The main three auction boards I browse are:
gunbroker.com
gunsamerica.com
auctionarms.com

A good surplus house:

Yeah i just got a 10/22 for x-mas, and its an awesome gun, and ammo is CHEAP. SO far the best ive found is Winchester Wildcats, at $8.99/500 rounds
