Happy Birthday.....

I was going to wait until Monday to put this thread up, but decided to do it today so more people would see it.

Happy Birthday to......The 1994 Assault Weapons Ban

The Ban turns 10 on Monday September 13. On Tuesday September 14, the Ban will be stood up against a wall and shot, preferably with the 19 types of firearms it outlawed.

I was so happy to hear that on the news this morning. I guess they've figured out that it didn't work.

Isnt there enough different guns you can still have?

iamnormal 09-10-2004 12:09 PM

The guns were ban for what they looked like.
So if we go on thinking like this all cars that look fast should be ban. Going faster than the speed limit is illegal.
Anyone who looks odd should be jailed because they look like they could do something wrong.

And I'm still fucked because I was dumb enough to fall in love in MA...

I cannot wait. Years ago, I would've celebrated by running out and buying another rifle. Today, I think I'll just sit back and be quietly very happy.

The difference today is that I have kids. And before you ask, the reasoning behind that statement is not that I worry about my kids being in a home with one, it's because kids drain your posketbook like little cute vampires. Uncle Moonduck can't afford the Gun-a-Month Club anymore =(

That said, I might just pull out one of my existing "bad" guns and take it to the range in celebration. I'm very happy about this, yessir.

On next Tuesday, I think that I will run over to a nice little desert valley I know that lies just over the Nevada state line in California and hunt jack rabbits with my Styer Aug. Of course the Aug is still going to be illegal there, but California will never catch me. :-)

I guess I dont know a lot about it - I would have thought that all weapons worth having are at least capable of "assault" otherwise what would be the point of them? If the ban is only based on what a gun looks like and other legal weapons have the same capabilities, then either the legal weapons like this should be banned too, or they all should be legal.

I dont really understand the concept of partial gun control anyway. I could accept there are qualitative differences to a degree - like I could understand banning a rocket laucher but not a pistol... but if - for example - you ban the AK47, but the M16 machine gun is still legal, what is the point? What does it achieve? Someone can be killed just as easily with the M 16.

Moonduck 09-12-2004 09:41 AM

Shhh, you're using logic. It frightens the gun-banners.

iamnormal 09-12-2004 10:23 AM

All full automatic guns have been restricted to civilians by the National Firearms Act of 1934.
This site explains the ban fairly well. http://www.ont.com/users/kolya/

I'm not planing on buying any guns that was ban before. I just think the law is stupid and I don't like stupid laws.

hrdwareguy 09-13-2004 06:06 AM

Keep in mind, the AWB was for semi-automatc weapons only. It had nothing to do with full auto guns.

As iamnormal pointed out, full autos are still regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934. I say regulated instead of restricted because you can still purchas full autos if you have the time and money to put up with the hastle.

I'm going to buy some 20-round mags!
