So I win this Spear Gun at work .

Have you ever played a hundred square board game ? Well, to my surprise I won a Spear Gun with 2 harpoon thingies and a bunch of screw on target tips . It was the best 2 bucks that I ever spent ( I bought ONE square )
So anywho ... I get this impressive looking device home and it turns out that the way it fires is by pneumatics . You pump it up and it looks like it will fire 5 or 6 times before you have to pump it up again , maybe more after I go to the hardware store to buy new O - Rings . For all of you who remember I feel like Lloyd Bridges in Sea Hunt ! Now all I need is some attacking undersea adversaries so I can shoot them in the leg then cut their air hose ! What fun !
Anyone else have a contraption like this ? It looks like I can use it for those really high apples you normally cant reach off the tree.

I have got to fire a spear gun before. Quite a bit of recoil when fired out of the water.

Take caution with a Spear Gun. "Mangled" aquatic life attracts "mangling" aquatic life. Remember the buddy system and have one locked and loaded at all times.

They have been banned in many places for that very reason.

We've all seen James Bond shoot a harpoon gun above water, one-handed, then go back to makin' time with his sweet lady. But, that's quite impossible. Sure, go ahead and make your "it's just a movie!" reaction. Done? Good. I have to agree with hrdwareguy entirely. Those things kick like a good shotgun, but can be delightfully effective under the water. Some other interesting pneumatically-fired guns appeared in the Jules Verne novel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Of course, they weren't using harpoon guns (like in the movie with Kirk Douglas), they used air-rifles that fired glass spheres containing an electrically-charged substance. You can imagine what that would do to the nervous system of an undersea creature; after all, Nature designed the electric eel for just this same effect. Frankly, I like Verne's weapon better than conventional harpoon guns. The only trick is to create the electricity-storing goo. See, if you can stun/shock/kill the critter without bloodletting, you won't attract that "mangling aquatic life" that j8ear was so wise to mention. Props, buddy.

Have a great day, all--and enjoy your new toy!

Show us your O-ring face.

That looks like fun, I could be the terror of the local pool with that.

It is a hundred square board game . This one was 2 dollars a sq. The numbers 0 thru 9 ( usually by shuffling then drawing playing cards Ace thru 9 )are drawn twice running down both sides of the board . Then we play the midday lotto and use the first and last number . Who ever 2 numbers intersect is the winner .

I smell a darwin award in the making! j/k

I won 50 somethin bucks in one of those bets, it's a pleasant surprise indeed! I wouldn't know what to do with a spear gun that wouldn't involve a trip to the emergency room though.

While on holiday in Ibiza the dude in the next room to me bought one.

He fired it at his wall to test it and it went straight through the wall into my room and stuck in the opposite wall.

Never fired one under water, but I'd love to some day.

I use a banded gun. There less to go wrong and when you're diving/hunting in saltwater, that's a major concern.
