Iowa going Concealed

'Shall Issue' bill Passed both the Iowa House (80-15) and Senate (44-4),
as you can see, by large margins.

The Governor is expected to sign, and it will become law on 1 January 2011.

Among other things, Iowa will go from recognizing no out-of-state CCW
permits to recognizing all!"

Damn. Now if only Maryland can do the same. Then I can actually walk around the city with a modicum of security.

dksuddeth 03-31-2010 12:04 PM

congrats to Iowa.

Plan9 03-31-2010 12:35 PM

Too bad there's nothing in Iowa to warrant a visit.

...

I really wish we had better reciprocity with state CCW licenses. It's stupid to have to apply to get several so I can carry when I travel.

What does X state have against X state that prevents this? Standards aren't tough enough? Jesus, people... let's work together.

*imagines you going to the law library wearing a IIIA vest with 10x12 plates*

What's not safe about that? You're loaded like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle!

Heh, I do not even want to walk to the local bank to deposit cash. Worried that someone will spot the green and stick me up. Tons of shady, homeless, and lost-youth looking types around here. Just the other day, a colleague's client was robbed at gun point. Hence, the desire to wear some Level II armor whenever I stay late.

!

Last I checked, Utah was the permit to get. It has the most reciprocity for whatever reason. My State(ohio) only has 13 I believe.

But I usually only travel to 4 states for business, and Ohio is recognised by all 4 of them.

Damn, I thought FL was the one to get, since they were the 'pilot state' in enacting CCW laws (IIRC.)

Care to post the maps of what states reciprocate to Utah and FL respectively?

Plan9 03-31-2010 02:29 PM

I think Packing.org has the most recent maps.

I'm from Indiana and the only ccw state around that doesn't accept mine is Ohio. I've heard it's because the Indiana permit doesn't have a photo on it.

It sucks but for $150 dollars or whatever i ended up spending for the lifetime permit you'd think it would come laminated and professional like a drivers license. Instead, it's just a flimsy piece of paper with some words on it.

Utah is definitely the one to get if you can swing it. I almost did it just so I could carry in Ohio.

Yeah, the only thing LEOs care about is the number that allows them to pull up your info in their system. The card says that it must be carried with valid photo ID to be effective. Honestly, I'm not afraid of Big Brother and I wouldn't mind them putting the number on my driver's license as an extra line.

I know this will never happen, but it's nice to fantasize.
