TV troubles.
So I was just in the middle of watching a DVD on my 6 month old TV when there was a sort of soft pop or thud kind of sound (it was almost the sound you'd hear when the power goes out and the tv shuts off) and the picture went out. The power indicator light that is usually green when there's a signal is now yellow and I can't get the screen to come back. Sound is working just fine. I tried plugging it into another outlet since I thought perhaps this old house was having power troubles and the tv wasn't getting enough juice but the outlet my computer is plugged into (and working fine) still gave me no picture.
Any ideas? There (of course) was only a 90 day warranty and I'm not going to be happy if I have to shell out the cash for another tv. Is there maybe some kind of fuse in there I can get at and change?

That was the first thing I did, the only thing it had in there for no picture was "make sure it's plugged in" and "check the antenna".
... Called the manufacturer, they said take it back to Best Buy Best Buy says they won't do anything unless I purchased their service plan, which if I recall cost something like 1/2 the cost of the TV. ...

Is this a CRT TV (glass, heavy)? It sounds like the flyback transformer went poof. If that's the case there is nothing you can do but to have to replaced, not cheap at all. Don't try to fix anything yourself, TV internal parts have high voltage circutries.

The TV is an Insignia brand, which the label is apparently owned by Best Buy (where I bought it, obviously) and neither BB nor Insignia will stand behind it.
I wrote an extensive email to BB corporate about the snide way the BB manager talked to me when he told me I should have bought the service plan and acted like I was an idiot for not. I'm not really willing to pay more than 1/2 the price of the TV for their service plan. I doubt I'll ever hear back. Looks like I'm going TV shopping. And never shopping at BB again methinks.
