Questions about DVD-R data disks
I just got a Plextor PX-740A DVD burner. My first attempt to use it was to burn a data DVD using the Nero Express software that came with it. I did this on a Windows 2000 Pro system. The burn seemed to complete normally. When I tried to read this disk in the same drive, Windows 2000 file explorer tells me the disc is blank. When I try to read it in a DVD drive on another Windows 2000 machine, the drive just hangs trying to seek for something. I put the disk in a Windows XP Home machine and it can read the disc fine.
Is this a problem with how I burned the disc or are DVD data discs something that is supported only in Windows XP? 2nd edit: Figured out my Linux problem, needed to explicitly specify the filesystem type. Stupid me. Thanks Last edited by dogzilla; 12-17-2005 at 06:44 AM.. Reason: Clarify my description |

Never mind. I burned a couple more data DVDs and they are readable just fine with Windows 2000. I guess something went wrong, or I did something wrong the first attempt and the DVD is probably bad. What threw me off track was that the questionable DVD read fine with Windows XP on a cheapo Compaq with a probably cheap DVD drive. I incorrectly assumed somebody had taken the opporuntity to come up with a new filesystem format for DVDs
