I've always had that problem in every version of firefox that I've had.

Videos, flash, etc all work, but those ytmnd sites never do.

damn javascript based stuff.

I had the same problem with Flash with FireFox 1.5, took a bit of sleuthing but finally tracked it down to the adblock extention. If you go to Tools > AdBlock > Preferences > AdBlock Options, uncheck Obj-Tabs and it should work now.

Definitely think that the way tabbed browsing works (reordering tabs) is a vast improvement to what it was before.

Why is it being such a memory whore?

I've had it open for say, twenty minutes. Normal surfing. It's got one tab open, this one, nothing else going on, and it's inhaling oh gee..118mb and slowly climbing

What. The. Heck.

This isn't a small memory leak, this is a RAM inhaling problem. What's the deal?

Ffox is running on: XP pro, Ffox ver 1.5, with: Noia 2.0 theme, Targetkiller 0.3, Tabbrowser Preferences 1.2.8.7, adblock 0.5.2.056, Adblock Filterset.G Updater 0.2.6, Flashblock 1.5.

Whups, because there's no scroll bar on the Extensions window, I didn't see a few:

Talkback 1.5, Tab X 0.9.1, Forecastfox 0.8.2.5, IE View 1.2.7.

I'll go over to mozilla now and act like I can make sense of the bug reports and stuff. If I find anything I'll post back.

billege- try disabling 'fastback', which stores a number of older pages in memory for 'lightening fast back and forward button use'. The technical information: Using Firefox 1.5 caching.

To disable: in about:config, create a new integer preference 'browser.sessionhistory.max_viewers' and set it to 0. I think it requres a restart as well. (There's already browser.sessionhistory.max_entries and browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers; ignore them.)

Redlemon,

You now get one greenlemon as a present from me, you can now be "Christmasfruit."

That seems to have done the trick. Multiple tabs, been open for hours doing homework/research/etc. only using 100mb, which seems reasonable.

Thank you for your dillegent efforts, they are much appreciated.

After i updated from v1.0.7 to 1.5, i get some sites that say i can't view because i don't have cookies enabled. It is only a few. I have checked the options tab and the box to set cookies is checked. Couldn't get it to work right so i went back to v1.0.7. I'll wait til it is fleshed out some more and then try again.

Okay, going back to >1.5 because 1.5 is a memory sucking whore.

266,984K and this is the ONLY page open, and I've been browsing for less than 10 minutes. Sorry, this version is busted. Better luck next time.

omg, clicking "post this reply" popped it up to 286,616K.

Later....

So you know:

I did remove, one by one, the listed extensions, and then the themes. The memory sucking sound coming from ffox didn't stop.

I'm back on version 1.0.7, loaded up with extensions, and am happily chilling at 66mb with all sorts of crap open.

Well crap. It's still using far more memory than is acceptable. So, it's a tradeoff. Ffox's set of issues or IE's. What a choice.

Weird, I haven't had ANY memory problems with 1.5, but thanks for that info redlemon!
