help with connectors
 

I'm assembling a computer for the very first time and am confused. I'm connecting the front panel connectors (reset switch, power switch, hdd led and msg led). Someone told me you never want the metal sides of these connectors to face another metal side or a metal pin and doing so can screw up the motherboard. If this is true then there is no way that I can connect these connectors as the manual tells me too without having at least one metal side face an empty metal pin.

So What I'm wondering is is it true that the metal side of the connector should never face a metal pin? Any sort of help in this area would be much apreciated.

If it helps any I'm using GA-K8N Pro-SLI motherboard and a Coolermaster Centurion 5 case. Links below to both of them

the connectors should be plastic...
and if they have exposed metal parts... just make sure they are only touching the contacts that they are supposed to be...

Yeah they are plastic. Let me clearify, Each one is plasic but has metal exposed on one side.

So you're saying that as long as the metal doesn't physically touch a pin it'll be ok?

The metal (inside) is supposed to touch the pin it's supposed to be connected to. So you have a bunch of pins sticking out of the motherboard and connectors that are like plastic boxes with holes in one end and wires out the other end. You just put together the correct pin in the hole and that's it, no metal should be exposed. I can't picture where the confusion is coming from. It's simple; don't think about it too hard and do what the manual says. ;)
