Need New Registrar...DotEasy being blocked?

 Hi everybody,
Brief I'm looking for suggestions for a domain registrar, regardless if they host. Verbose This was prompted because I'm in China and, for some reason, could not access http://www.MarcMyWords.net/, which is a website that I maintain. I honestly am not trying to get hits, but would appreciate it if you tried it to see if you get reasonable homepage. I'm only getting a timeout. Now, I like doteasy but if I'm not able to reach pages hosted by them from China, I really can't use them as my registrar/host. Anyway, any suggestions for a reliable registrar with good customer service would be great. Thanks! |

I have had good dealings with both GoDaddy.com and networksolutions.com

page works in Minnesota too.
but, I second the godaddy rec. |

Perhaps it really is true that the Chinese government is censoring pages. I can reach MarcMyWords.net just fine.

I got it fine in SE Texas....
I point folks to Dreamhost.com. With soem of their packages you get free registration with a hosting account. |

Thanks everyone; I'll look into the registrars you selected. I also wanted to assure you that yes, the Chinese government does censor websites. For example, I can't get to news.bbc.co.uk. However, there's less censorship than I expected, although I've also been told that it's like a rolling blackout...they'll censor based on a site's recent coverage.
BUT, the real question, then, is why are they censoring MarcMyWords?? lol, it's as innocuous as any...maybe they just don't like sports? |

The story you discuss on that page is about racial equality. No no no, can't have THAT in china.. :)

Wow, you know that could very well be it...racial equality...holy CRAP.
I've only been in China for a month...this is the first real sticky point I have with this place. |

Web site works fine from Maryland...
I have had good dealings with both netsol.com and dotster.com for domain reg purposes. -bear PS...doubt this is a registrar problem but instead a content problem for china...but I think you've already realized that. |
