What "shopping cart" programs/set-ups are the best? Any free ones? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I collect Basketball cards, and over the years I've amassed a sizable amount of them. I know I can use eBay to sell 'em, but I've been wanting to set up a personal store of my own on my own hosting site without having to pay outrageous monthly costs. What I need is a shopping cart program that can run off of my site, and is easily customized. A free one would be even better, but quality if more of a concern to me. I've found sites that have these programs, but instead of selling the actual program to you, they want to charge you an outrageous monthly price to use one based off of their own site. I'm not trying to start a big business; I just need another online outlet to sell my cards that is easy to use (from both the buyers' and my ends), and is efficient.

Anyone know of any? Any other recommendations? Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

I'm not too familiar with these programs, but as for free, have you checked Freshmeat? I think there are few options for free programs. Here's the first link, Shopping Cart Builder, which is free to use as long as you put a banner on your site. There are others though. Check out this list. Some are even GPL.

try ecommerce, although it may ber too big for what you need it for, namesco.com have a free online store lumped in with their hosting packages

Thank you very much to the both of you! I installed closedShop found on Freshmeat, and so far it looks pretty cool; only thing is the main page is a search page; not a browsing page. I've e-mailed the developer to see if I just missed something. I'm hoping it has browsing capabilities.

I just used it this summer to setup my uncles store... its really flexible and has lots of options...
