I just want to play Civilization III - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I recently formated my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 2000 on my machine. I reinstalled Civilzation III, but it will no longer run. The opening video plays, but after that, the screen stays black. I remember having this problem the first time I installed civilization (also ran it on windows 2000) but I was able to fix it with a patch from the Civ III web site. This patch is no longer anywhere to be found on the web site. Does any one have any help for me? I'm going through withdrawls.

I was able to download the v1.29f patch for Civ III from their site at http://www.civ3.com/patches.cfm - was this the patch you were looking for, or was there a specific patch for the problem you mentioned?

That did it. It looks like when I originally went to Civ III I downloaded the first patch. The Play the World Patch.

Thank you, with out Civilization, I was starting to feel productive.

Offtopic: When it comes to situations like these, I copy an ISO of the game disc to my hard drive, download all the patches I need and then add them to the ISO and reburn it. That way, even if the game gets really old and the site stops offering patches, I still have everything I need to run it right on the disc.

Good advice there, phukraut.

I do this out of habit, especially with older games. Once I get them working and updated, every little bit goes on the copy.
