Mercedes + bluetooth = ?
I have a friend who just got given a new Mercedes by his father, and it has some sort of bluetooth-capable built in system on it. Mercedes wants an obscene amount of money for their special bluetooth phone but apparently the salesman hinted that some "ordinary" bluetooth phones are compatible with it.
Anyone know which ones?? My friend isn't even sure he can afford to pay for the insurance and registration for this thing, much less thousands of dollars for the phone. Thanks! |
Yeah, it depends on what the capabilities of the mercedes is. Is the bluetooth for hands free calls? Or is it for music playing? Or even file transfer?
That's one of the things about bluetooth, it can do alot of things, but people don't really want to take the time to figure it out, like ALOT of new technology now a days. Technically, it should work with any bluetooth enabled phone. I doubt mercedes would try to encode it so only their phone would be compatible with it, it's hard. |
I personally have never used bluetooth so I'm a little uninformed about it. I believe it's just for hands-free calling that he has in mind. I did find some information on another forum that looks like basically you need to get the mercedes-specific firmware onto the phone. There are apparently some tools you can use to do this and you just have to find someone who'se willing to give you the mercedes firmware. I hope he wants to do it, it would be fun to learn about.
