Minimize something to system tray?
As you know, when you minimize most windows they go to the task bar. But some programs, such as as LimeWire and AOL Instant Messanger, have an option that makes them go straight to the system tray (by the clock in the corner) instead, which frees up the task bar. This is a feature I love, and wish more programs had something like it.
My question is, is there a program (something along the lines of TweakUI) that lets you move any windows to the system tray? Maybe like when you right click on icons in the task bar it gives you the option to move it to the system tray and out of the task bar? I want to run Outlook Express in the background and have it check for new e-mails every few minutes. To do this right now I have to leave it in the task bar. I hate having too many things in the task bar and would much rather just have it running in the background, accessible through the system tray. Thanks a lot guys! I appretiate any help you might have to offer |

Here are a couple links to software that should do what you want. Never used either of them, just googled for some keywords.

Awesome, thanks a lot hrdwareguy. Just tried the second one and it works brilliantly.
I honestly wasn't too optimistic that something like this existed, and sort of half-heartedly searched for it I guess I should of spent more time doing that, seeing as you found it in probably a matter of minutes. I'm usually better at it. Thanks again, I appretiate it Just curious, if anybody else uses such tools, what kind of programs do you use it for? Any special uses, like my Outlook Express idea? |

Here's another free option that I've used happily for some time now if anybody is interested:
http://rbtray.narod.ru/ And here's a mirror, since the original site is on some free Russian hosting place and seems to be frequently unavailable: http://www.preater.com/apps/rbtray/ All it does is make it so when you right-click on the minimize button of an open window it minimizes to the tray instead of to the taskbar. |
