Mozilla and Gmail
I can't access my gmail account using Firefox. It tells me connection was refused when attempting to contact google.com. ??? I have Windows 98, IE 6 SP1, Mozilla Firefox and Norton Internet Security. I think it might be the Norton firewall but I've done everything I can think of to do. I can get into my gmail using IE but I'd rather not if I didn't have to. Any help would be appreciated. Modo

Are you running the Greasemonkey extension by any chance?
|
Try deleting all cookies relating to GMAIL or GOOGLE.
|
Um if it was just Saturday, then I know google had issues for most of the day.
Otherwise, no ideas from me. |

The Greasemonkey extension embeds javascript into pages to do various interesting things. One of the scripts isn't playing nice with Gmail right now, and locks people out in a few cases. |
I know gmail was down a good part of the day saturday and I had a hard time getting firefox to give me the error message, it just timed out. When I attempted using IE just as a test, I finally saw the error message that there were problems with the gmail server.
I use firefox exclusivley and never have a problem with gmail. |
Thanks TFP'rs: When I disable Norton Internet Security I can use G-Mail with Firefox. Still haven't figured out why yet. I don't keep any cookies, temporary internet files, history, download history etc.

How do you sign up for an account? I went to gmail.google.com and it says that it's still in beta and there's only a limited test.

hardknock, pm me your email address and i can send you an invite.

not just gmail here but I have been having amny problems the last couple weeks with FF timing out or saying a connection was refused with many sites, IE will work and FF usually will too after a couple refreshes

P.S. I can't refresh it because the "Alert" locks the page until I click OK. Then I'm still at the page I was at.
|
Seems I can't get into any secure site with Firefox. Connection refused alert.
|
Just a guess, but maybe somewhere in Norton properties there is an option to list what protocols you are allowed to connect on. Make sure it says both "http" and https"? Sorry I cannot help further.

glad to see I am not the only one having issues with sites connecting while using FF. That is odd indeed, but as stated above usually a refresh and I am right in the house.
winder if it coule be some sort of extension that has been installed, as I have found and installed quite an enjoyable bunch of these little buggers. |
I stopped the connection errors by doing this:
accessibility.typeheadfind.timeout changed it to 30000 I haven't gotten any more connection errors as of yet. |

Norton Internet Security does some weird things, and in some cases makes websites not work. My mother visists a cairn-terrier forum regularly and will only work by disabling Norton Internet Security.
