Do any 19" or smaller flat-panel monitors support resolutions above 1280x1024? The only ones I have been able to find are 21" and I dont want to spend almost a grand on a monitor, but 400-500 would be ok. At least 1600x1280 is what im looking for.

Actually, if you look at the specifications further down the page, the monitor is only 1280x1024 max resolution.

gonna have to find a UXGA LCD for that, they typically don't come smaller than 19"

hmmm this has me thinking. if you know what monitor supports that resolution you could always try that driver witht he current monitor. I have a viewsonic crt and i just used a random driver for it

My original post was going to say "I think that you can only get 1600x1200 on 20"+ panels"...but figured I'd do a Google search first. Guess that blew up in my face

yea your right, even though 19" CRT's are capable of 1600x1200 I guess no one cares to make an LCD monitor one. They have em for laptops screens though so I don't see why not monitors yet.

Yeah, Ive never seen anything different than the standard 1280x1024 for a 19" monitor. You could probably find higher if you really dug around and bought some ultra high-end screen, but you'd pay out the ass for it, to the point that itd probably be cheaper to just buy a bigger LCD.

Yet I have a three-year-old laptop with a 15" 1600x1200 native LCD, and we still can't get anywhere near the same in a desktop version. Why is that? I won't buy any monitor that doesn't support at least 1600x1200, but the larger LCDs are too expensive to justify buying one to replace this Trinitron I got for $20.

Thats not going to work with an LCD monitor. LCD monitors have discrete physical pixels and they can't display any more or less pixels in the same area. They can fake it by resizing the image, which usually looks like garbage. CRTs can display varying numbers of scanlines and pixels in each line.

I'm actually going through a similar delima. I'm tired of my 17'' CRT with 1280x1024 max. I want something bigger...a lot bigger. This weekend I almost spent $999.99 on a Sceptre 30'' LCD TV Monitor, until I looked at TV monitors at CompUSA today and decided they looked like crap as a monitor, and only have a 1280x768 resolution.

I switched my search over to just large LCDs. I found a great 20.1'' Sony that looks huge, and has a 1600x1200 resolution. CompUSA wanted $899 for it, but found it at newegg.com for only $710! I ordered it this afternoon. I'll let you know how it is when it arrives later this week.
I realize $710 is still a bit out of your prefered price range, but from what i've been able to find, it's about the best you'll be able to do for a LCD with that kind of resolution.
