I have a compaq presario 2252AP, will it be easy for me (or the computer guy) to install a bigger harddrive and more ram (? or is it memory? -- what's the thing that makes your computer work faster called?)

The speed of your computer is dependant on a variety of things, processor speed, hard drive speed, amount of RAM, type of RAM, etc.
In general, laptops are extremely difficult to upgrade, especially older ones, as this sometimes required taking the entire laptop apart. Most newer models have a piece of plastic on the bottom that covers up a RAM expansion bay, which is very useful. If your laptop has a 1.4 ghz processor and 128 mb of RAM, adding another 256 or even 512 mb of RAM would help dramatically

Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

upgrading ram makes things go alot faster.
hard drive just lets you hold more information. i googled your laptop, it holds up to a gig of ram. it has two slots for ram which means you can max it out by buying two 512 sticks of ram. one 512 stick of ram will cost you about $90 on ebay. a 256 stick of ram will cost about $60 in stores (dont know how much they'll be on ebay) Ram upgrade is plug and play. just unscrew the plate under your laptop, drop the ram in and you're set. (you can do this yourself, but make sure you buy the right type) if you use a slimline type hard drive, it's a piece of cake changing it out. all you do is swap out the hard drive, format it, and use the recovery disk that came with your laptop. (this you can also do yourself) ps- if you're laptop uses PC2700 ram, i've got a 256 mb stick of ram i'd be willing to sell. if any of my terms confused you, dont worry... all these things can be found on google easily.
