DVD-RW Drive Problem
Recently I've started having a problem with my DVD-RW. It doesn't show up in "My Computer", disk management, Hardware Devices, or anything. When I boot up, it'll show that it's working, it'll show my 3 hard drives, and my DVD Burner, but once Windows loads, its not there. Now, occasionally I can restart a couple of times, and it'll show up again. It'll stay there, until I restart again, then It'll be gone again. What could be causing this? I've taken my computer apart to make sure all of the cables are connected, and they are. I've reformatted my computer, and it didn't help. So far I'm thinking it MAY have something to do with Alcohol 120%, although I've been using it for a couple of years probably, it seems like its happening when I install that, but I'm not positive. Could just be my DVD-RW messing up, but in the past week, i've reformatted, burned a few DVDs, and CDs, with no problem, so I don't know.

This is an internal IDE I presumed? How old is the motherboard? After all you have done it sounds like the MB is going bad or at least the battery might need to be replaced. Give that a try first, clean the RAM contacts with rubbing alcohol and seat them firmly.
Try to get the latest firmware for the burner if you can. Uninstall Alcohol 120%, use Nero or Daemon Tools instead, see if these two recognize the drive and can burn successfully. |

Is anything else on the cable with the drive? Did this change recently? If so, did you change the jumpers to match the configuration?
I've also had drives die slowly this way. If you can, try it on another channel or in another system to isolate the problem.
