Unusual Video problem
 

Sometimes when I leave my computer on, the monitor turns off via the power savings mode. When I move the mouse to use the computer, the screen is split in two and the graphics act funny. This might be hard to describe, but its like I have a reverse dual monitor setup. If I want to scroll to the right, I have to move the mouse to the left where it *jumps* to the right side of the screen.
It only happens when I leave the computer and only occasionally.

System Specs:
Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz (Prescott)
1GB DDR SDRAM
200GB IDE WD Hard Drive
Nvidia 6800 128MB RAM
WindowsXP Professional

Could you provide more info?
Screen size, refresh rate, color depth, video driver (does it show Nvidia 6800?), AGP, PCI or PCI-E? What monitor do you have? CRT or LCD?
Does the motherboard have onboard video? Did you disable it?

Actually, subnote on this that could be very relevant, which version of Windows and DirectX are you running, and do you have the most recent Windows patches and service packs?

What you're describing sounds almost like and ACPI conflict, but that would be highly unusual.

sometime some shit might happen with no explanation or reason :)

It can have sth to do with the ACPI config of the mainboard ...
wait for another BIOS update .... get that to work the mainboard then ...

allthough ... this is more or less older and "bug-proven" hardware ...

has it been runing stable at any time u own it ?
have u changed any the settings before ?

It has been stable, and it only happens after the computer has been left idle for awhile. Never happens in the middle of something.....

DirectX 9.0C with XP Pro

What have you changed since it was stable?
mouse driver? video driver? screen saver? screen capture utility? web cam software?

you see where I'm going with this :-)

Any custom screensavers?

Well I thought that I had the problem gone, and I recently (yesterday) reformatted my computer (on account I was extremely bored and just some spring cleaning for my computer). The problem showed up again today, which, IMO, means that it could be a driver issue. I do not use custom screensavers, no screen capture utility, no webcam. The driver was the latest WHQL-certified driver off of the Nvidia website. Temeprature readings were fine (50ºC for the graphics card, 45ºC for the processor).
