Ftp Server
I'm trying to set up an Ftp server on my current machine (WinXP), but I have no clue as to what's good out there. Free is what i'm looking for, but somewhat secure and easy to use would be nice. I used Serv-U, that was pretty easy to use, but I also hear it wasn't very secure, and it was a trial version only. (I like software like Firefox, is FileZilla any good?)
Thanks for your input in advance ^_^. |
The FileZilla client is great but I haven't used the server. freeFTPd looks promising too. Keep in mind, FTP (plain FTP) is not secure at all; passwords are sent in plain text. It looks like freeFTPd supports security-enhanced protocols, though.

I currently use Filezilla for my FTP site and love it. Easy, small FTP server. the client works great too.

where'd you hear serv-u isn't secure? I disagree that it isn't secure, it's a helluva lot better than IIS.
if it's just for personal use, then servu has a personal free version. if you want full functionality for free, I don't know what to tell ya. |
I use Smart Ftp and its free for personal use, whatever that means, i just know i don't pay and don't need to sign up when they ask me.

Another vote for Filezilla, the server works fine too.

I use CesarFTP, mainly just because its easy to setup and I only use it *very* occasionally. I've never even tried anything else--but its easy to config and yet still rather powerful.

Anyhoo, I use Filezilla Server on my personal server at work and on my file server at home and haven't had any issues with it. |
I have a second PC that I use as a webserver. It has the documents for my site on it. I have a desktop shortcut to open those documents.
Beforehand, I had to log on via FTP to a friend's server and transfer the files over. Now I can instantly, INSTANTLY edit the page! |
