Spoolsv.exe
My friend's computer is somehow infected by something. He has a file "spoolsv.exe", which is a normal Windows process that handles the print jobs on the computer and is necessary for printing. However, this process is taking up 99% of the computing power and nothing is coming up on spyware scans or virus scans.

Is he running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 on it?
If so remove SP2.... this is a known issue. |
spoolsv.exe is a Microsoft Windows system executable which handles the printing process to your local printers.
Note: spoolsv.exe is also a process which is registered as the Backdoor.Ciadoor.B Trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data. It is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately. Was also able to find this using Google. http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/pr...oolsv.exe.html Did you try looking at Google? There is a lot of information there. I only knew SP2 and spoolsv.exe to have issues when SP2 was still in Beta form. |
Soccer, does the system have pending jobs in any printer's queue? Stop the service, clear the jobs, and restart the service.
I concur about the issue with beta SP2, but this was fixed before it went gold. |
No printing jobs waiting.
