Static in audio
Just lately I've been getting random static when I've been listening to music or watching movies. I'm guessing it's a problem with my audio card since I get static when I plug my headphones in too.
The soundcard is a Philips Acoustic Edge. Running Windows XP, Klipsch ProAudio 4.1 speakers. I've taken the card out and put it back in, but that seemed to make no difference. Any help's much appreciated. |
Did you try your headphone in other devices? Like CD Player or MP3 Player? If you hear static coming out of those things, you may need to replace your headphone.

Not the headphones, I originally noticed the static when using the speakers, so I plugged in the headphones just to make sure, and the static occurs on both.

Do you have an onboard audio port you can check? If so and it gives you static still, then it could be a power source issue, or perhaps the motherboard. Power surges could also cause static. Alternatively, it could be electromagnetic interference... like from a microwave or vacuum nearby. I've noticed this on some computers.
If you don't have onboard to check with... do you have another card you could swap in (perhaps a friend's)? If that works, then it's the card. You could also install new drivers, which sometimes helps. This is probably the easiest solution. Also, does the static occur in only one program, or globally? If it's only one program, then it's almost guaranteed to be a driver issue. |
