No color in GIF animation

Hey guys!

I'm working on a GIF animation at the moment and my client wants the word "contest" to be included in orange only it turns blue whenever I test it in Explorer?!

I've made banners before but that was a year ago and I can't figure out why the colors worked fine back then and why they're screwing up now.

HELP!?

Just a shot in the dark here... but are any parts of the GIF transparent or semi-transparent? If there are multiple layers which get merged when you save, that can frequently screw with the colors... so it looks one color in the editing program, and another when you view it. Try merging the layers before you save, see what happens.

If that's not it, I got nothing else. Sorry.

Edit: I just read another post about GIMP using layers to animate. That hadn't even occured to me before, but it makes perfect sense. If your editing program uses layers to animate, rather than a timecode, this might be the problem. If you layer, make sure the layer with the text on it is white in the background to absolve any overlapping color issues.

If you post the GIF, I might be able to take a look at it.

That's mighty sweet of you mooseman!

I'll give it one more try and if it still won't work I'll be glad if you'd take a lot at it!

I think that might have something to do with the color palette, there are only a limited amount of colors in a .gif (256 I think?) so that blue might be the closest thing to orange? I'm not certain though. When you save the .gif there should be an option for quality versus file size so the higher the quality the more colors you have available. At really low quality you'll only have a few colors and it'll choose the closest one. But I'm not certain this is the problem since you said it shows up wrong in IE. What about in Firefox or in Windows picture viewer?

ryborg: I'm using ImageReady

MooseMan: Thanks so much for your help! It turned out that it was indeed the semi-transparent pictures in my banner that was causing it so I had to make it all over. Oh well.. at least it works now
