MS word and CDRW's
I am working on a research paper and am using a CDRW for the first time - I am trandferring form a laptop to a desktop with a printer and when I do the desktop says that I need a converter.
Yeah - I have none of the origional word install disks left. Am I screwed?

Just use a flash drive. Much simpler.

You don't want to use floppies. They are too UNRELIABLE. I would recommend just going to Best Buy or similar and picking up a small 64mb thumb drive. All newer computers have USB ports, but not all have floppy drives anymore.
When I order Dell systems for my company, I don't order them with floppy drives. Like O'Rights said, flash drive. From NewEgg, you can get a 128mb for around $15.

maybe you have 2 different versions of Word installed. Going from an older version to a newer version or something like that. If you don't have the disks anymore, maybe it would be easier to hook the printer to the laptop temporarily.

another storage option - internet mail. with google giving us a gig, and yahoo 250mb, who needs cdr's, or floppies for small files like word/excel docs that are irreplaceable!

Also, if Word is saying that you need to convert the file, try saving it (on the laptop) in a different format. Under save-as, there's an option for type of file. |
