Radio Wave Transmitter? Do you have one?
Wondering if any one has a Radio Transmitter here and how well
does it work? There must be others, but I am thinking of buying the one in the CCrane catalog for around $99. (Goes on sale for less at times.) Use it to transmit music from your computer to a F.M. stereo radio at a remote location. |

one thing to consider is how crowded your airwaves already are, you have to find a blank station to broadcast on or you will have problems with overlap.
since your in houston i doubt that you could find many blank stations like that, it would be something to look into before getting it.

My satellite radio is using an FM transmitter to broadcast onto my FM radio. My airwaves are crowded, and I have no overlap. It depends where the transmitter is placed. If it is placed close it over-rides any nearby bleed over with out any noise. From one room to the next you may hear bleed over, but I have no complaints.

I have a PCI card in my PC. It's called a PCI Max Ultra and does the job nicely. The standard low power setting is good for a house and surrounding space. You can beef up the power to get 10 miles out of it. Check legalities in your area though!!!

how far do you need to transmit? I use a Belkin Tunecast II to run my laptop through my car stereo. Works GREAT, and it'll transmit on any FM freq from 88.1 to 107.9 Has a cig. lighter plug and also takes 2 AA batteries for when you're away from the car. I think I paid $35 for it. If you need to send it down the block, though, this one isn't for you.

My daughter's Ipod must have a gizmo something like that. She told me to turn my car radio to an "unused" FM station and suddenly we're listening to her Ipod collection. This unused frequency was only 0.2MHz away from a reasonably powerful local station and we had no interference ...of course we were less than about 5ft from the car antenae.

With AM modulation transmitters close in frequency will disturb one another.
Even if one is much stronger than the other. There will be a "beat" note which is the difference in frequency. With FM modulation this is much less of a problem if one transmitter is relatively stronger (the one near the receiver). The receiver will "capture" the stronger station. |
