Do you use custom windows Themes?

I was wanting to know for those of you that do theme your windows what programs and themes u guys use?

Manic_Skafe 03-03-2005 11:14 PM

Weird thread and I think this goes in the computers forum but I'll work with it.

I used to change my theme to the Rainy Day theme but after getting used to formatting my drives on a weekly basis I got used to the standard look.

ph33rz 03-03-2005 11:18 PM

I see, Did the themes cause you to have to format ur drives on a weekly basis?

Nisses 03-04-2005 12:11 AM

If you take a general theme, that just changes the color and look, no, that shouldn't make a difference at all.

That being said, no, I never use themes anymore. I did years ago, but I always seemed to get bored with it after a few weeks, and so stopped using it. I just stick with the silver theme from XP, suits me fine.

Slavakion 03-04-2005 03:35 AM

My theme... is the Windows Classic. Think of Windows 98, and you'll know what my computer looks like.

optik_nerve 03-04-2005 09:47 AM

I use Mac OS X.

IC3 03-04-2005 12:55 PM

I use Style XP

spived2 03-04-2005 01:03 PM

I used to use desktopX. Costs money but you can find free if you look hard enough.

phukraut 03-04-2005 04:04 PM

I use MacOSX Pro. It's very sweet, and it comes with a winamp skin, Winamp_X. Throw in a Trillian iChat skin and a few aqua wallpapers, and I'm halfway to a perverted OSX.

BurntToast 03-04-2005 05:26 PM

I have used Style XP and it is a nice program.

However I have gone a little more drastic and now use a shell replacement.

Litestep is the shit! :)

glytch 03-04-2005 07:46 PM

I love changing up XP "themes". I used to use StyleXP but now just use a hacked-together uxtheme.dll. It doesn't take up any resources, and allows you to do what you like. Actually, I think it's time for me to check in to the "post your desktop" thread again...

ph33rz 03-07-2005 10:58 AM

I agree i like litestep alot, But god its so hard to get used to it, I wanna find one litestep theme that looks cool and has like a taskbar and etc to where you can still access all your stuff without having to search for 5 mins tryin to find ur start menu button..., At the moment, I used object desktop and created a side bar...and its suiting me pretty well

bendsley 03-07-2005 11:58 AM

Windows themes don't usually work under Linux :)

ph33rz 03-07-2005 05:10 PM

Lol ture, what version of linux do you use? I've used gentoo redhat and mandrake aswell as suse 9 and i've fiddleld with slackware..My favorite by far was gentoo tho..

Kazic 03-07-2005 09:07 PM

I usually don't use themes but I started using Desktop XP. heh I am still a bit lazy and haven't really tweaked it all. I just don't like in some instances if I have to restart my comp I have to resetup all my changes. At first I changed them back each time. slowly though I stopped changeing shit. and ended up just leaving it alone at what comes up.

bbbbbb555 03-07-2005 09:49 PM

i used to use windows blinds, and the have a ton of themes that you can download. i liked some of them a lot, but they slow down your computer some so i stopped using them.
you can get all kinds of different themes at deviant art.

I figured my avatar would have said it all.

As for what distro I use? Debian, of course. www.debian.org

Latch is hell bent on Gentoo also, but thats just because he doesn't know any better. :hmm:

killeena 03-08-2005 07:02 AM

I use bblean (Blackbox for windows). It is a total replacement for explorer, and much lighter on resources. It is a little work at first, because there are a lot of things you have to manually change in config files, but once it is going, it is pretty nice.

That kinda sucks that if you shut down the program won't save your themes. If that was the case with Style XP i wouldn't even bother.

xepherys 03-08-2005 10:45 AM

I actually go so far as to disable theme services for XP. The extra 1.5% system performance is worth it.

ph33rz 03-08-2005 10:48 AM

killeena That program is pretty nice, what plugins do you use? if any, and what version of it are u using..?

Confederate 03-08-2005 02:25 PM

I'm not sure how this turned into a linux thread, but ok.

I used windowsblinds there for a while, but it crashed certain program, now I just use windows classic theme.

TheJig 03-09-2005 09:05 AM

I used Desktop X and Windowblinds for a while, but I still have Windows 2000 so none of the themes looked the way they were supposed to.

I also tried Aston, which I really liked, but it's not free and my trial ran out.

aa1037 03-09-2005 10:13 AM

StyleXP for me

Wingless 03-09-2005 08:00 PM

ph33rz 03-09-2005 08:18 PM

You guys got screenys?

HeAtHeN 03-09-2005 08:41 PM

I am using version 1.12 with the default BBLean plugins, and bbShelf.

soccerchamp76 03-10-2005 07:30 PM

How do you hack the uxptheme.dll?? Or do you download one?

ph33rz 03-13-2005 08:58 AM

You download it ..

glytch 03-13-2005 10:19 AM

Either download it or use reshack. I think there's a uxtheme patcher as well.

jamesconrad 03-22-2005 09:16 PM

The only theme I use is the one that came with Windows 2000 or the new media center theme called "Royale" located at:

Royale Theme

I like a clean a neat desktop. Nothing fancy.

muckluck 03-23-2005 12:59 PM

I use bblean 1.2 and use the nextrel style for it.It saves resources and looks better and adds functionality. Best program ever.

MrFlux 03-23-2005 05:19 PM

I use Luna Element

mikec 03-25-2005 12:15 PM

stylexp, and themes from www.themexp.org..

JeremyS 03-25-2005 02:29 PM

I use Windows Classic theme. I like my computer to run as fast as possible.

FlunkedFlank 03-26-2005 10:51 AM

any time I've ever tried using a theme it eventually started to crash things and make things generally unstable. might work fine for email, MS Office, etc.., but any other kind of complicated program and it was always trouble for me after a while.

darkangel 03-28-2005 12:26 AM

I use Windows Blinds, and I haven't noticed my computer running any slower..

Wingless 03-28-2005 08:23 AM

Hacked uxtheme.dll doesn't slow my system down at all. I had some problems initially, but they all ironed out in the end. It runs the same speed as if I were running Classic or XP themes.

d3cemberist 04-08-2005 04:56 PM

I've always been a Windows Classic man myself. Clean and simple is the way to go!
