Nvidia 6600Gt problems
 

So I finally took the step and bought a better than average card and now I have problems.
1st I installed the card and it worked good booted up fine
then i set the screen to 1024x768 still good went to test it on Mohaa thats when the problems started, as the game started up the pc just died.

then I tried to reboot no dice had to unplug powercord after that it started up but gave me this

Nv4_disp

The device driver get stuck in an infinite loop this usually indicates problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrect

Ok so I read all the stuff on that and uninstalled the card unistalled all the drivers stuck in my old card fx5200 and every thing is back to normal
checked my bios and they are up to date
checked everthing was good

put in the 6600 GT back in installed and I get a screen looking like this

in 800x480 so i changed the screen to 1024x768 and puff back to same problem as i had earlier with out starting any games the same thing happened
while watching an AVI file in less than 30 sec.
So I dont know what to do next ?
I include my pc specs.

its a Dell 8300
P4 3.0 MHZ 800 front side bus and Hyper threading
2 x 512 MB
160GB WD HD
XP SP2
dvd drive
dvd+RW
no floppy
Audity 2 Soundblaster
power supply 350 Watts

Did I run into a wattage problem maybe
I dont think it could be a heat issue since it happend in less than 3 minuttes with nothing running

Have you tried the latest drivers from the nvidia web site? They tend to have done a ton of work in comparison to the drivers shipped on CD. That is where I would start.

Chances are there is a problem with your old drivers conflicting with your new drivers. Video and audio drivers are notorious for hanging around after installation.

Download that and reboot into safe mode, run the nvidia cleaner and then reinstall your drivers.

I tried this and then I got a Page_fault_In_nonpaged_Area in a blue screen.I rebooted went into safemode to install the drivers which I had to do by memory because it was so garbled i could not see the words and letters (like they were on top off each other white on black) anyway once windows started up in safemode it was ok even the streaks were almost gone (see picture) I installed the newest driver 66.93 did a restart and got the nv4_disp again.(on a green screen)
Before this I updated the chip rechecked the bios and they are the newest
I read some thing about I have to disable write fast on the AGP port and that should solve it but I could not find any directions on how to do it.

The page thing points in the direction of faulty grafics memory.
ALso I found out I was wrong on my wattage I only have MAX 305 Watt not 350 Watt

I would definately get a bigger power supply. It probably isnt the source of your problems right now but its kinda on the small side. It might give you problems in the future if you add more stuff.

Did you run the driver cleaner while in safe mode?? If not it may not have deleted everything. Its not necessary to INSTALL drivers in safe mode... but I recommend it for REMOVING the drivers.

The AGP fast write setting would be in your BIOS.

One last thing, when the 6600's were first made there was reports of TONS of them that were faulty and having problems. If none of this stuff works you might want to contact the card manufacturer to see if they will replace it or if its still new enough just take it back. If you bought it online I hope you got it from a reputable store so that they will help you.

Sounds like a fried videocard to me, but I'm pessimistic. The same problems happened with my girlfriend's videocard. We sent it back and the next one worked fine. It could possibly be the power supply, but I don't have any experience with PSU's causing videocard problems.

Looks like some defected pipelines in the video card to me, call up dell (or whoever you got it from) to get a replacement.

Yes I ran driver cleaner in safe mode and when I rebooted I got the page_fault so I could not do the install thats why I went into safemode to install the drivers after reboot it did not even start up just the windows start then it shut down and after 30sec started up to show me the NV4_disp screen
Its going back where it came from I bought it at Newegg and they are pretty good at taking stuff back for replacement.
And yes im looking into a larger power supply

Yeah I'd say it's a toasted video card, as well. Those streaks are a telltale sign, as well as the garbled video. Driver issues don't tend to manifest themselves like that, in my experience.

I returned that one and got a new one same kind and this one works great.
test drove for 2 hours playing Mohaa without any problems and the fps in many places doubled even with the highest settings.

I know it has been a while now and I’m basically happy with the cards performance I just have a few questions maybe someone has a solution.

I play mohaa 90% of the time and on stock maps the FPS have doubled in some instances, but on not stock maps where I didn’t have FPS problems before I have some now, anyone know why that would be?
And also why would the card clock 299 instead of the 500 it’s supposed too.
I did a test on 3DMark03 and it comes out at 8021 and 7985 respectfully I guess not bad
On the picture Cards spec to the left and 3DMarks test to the right.
Currently using driver 7.1.8.9 not 6.6.9.3 on recommendations of Evga.
Any Ideas.

When I got my 6600 GT it was fried the first two times.

Third time's a charm, though it's still a little buggy. I wish I had waited until there were more information out on it : /

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR POWERSUPPLY CONNECTED TO YOUR VIDEOCARD OR YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE THIS.....


Sorry, for the all caps... I don't know how many people with newer GeForce cards that fail to do this step.... Hope it helps, if this was already mentioned and I did not see it. I apologize.

I made sure that it was plugged in from the beginning
installation sheets had your writing in all caps also :D
Any one know how to activate the temparature read on the card ?
