page numbering on a word doc?

ok, this is driving me crazy....the doc that i am working on has to have numbered pages...the first page has to be "1"...and it has to be centered at the bottom of the page...all subsequent pages have to be at the top right of the page...

can someone tell me how to do this...please??

You can't do it in word (as far as my knowledge goes). The style for header and footter stays the same through all the pages. It really sucks.

Open your word doc. Place your cursor on the second page. Click View/Headers and Footers. Put your Page number(starting at 2) in the header. On the Header toolbar, click the button for Page Setup. Put a check in the box for Different First Page. Close the Header and Footer Toolbar. Place your cursor on Page 1. click View/Headers and Footers. Set up your page number on the footer of page 1. Click Close. You should now be done.

This is how it's done in Word XP.

You can always set up "sections" in your Word document. You can restart numbering, have different numbering styles, etc. Look it up, I think that will fix your problem.

I'd just do it as 2 seperate docs.

The first doc would be page 1, with the page # located as described. The second doc would be page 2-99, you can start page number at any value.

I don't know why people are suggesting anything other than what hrdwareguy wrote. This is exactly why Different First Page was put in Word. I use this all the time in Word 97.

Does anybody honestly think that they would leave out PAGE NUMBERING out of Office XP or 2003? Seriously, guys. Follow Hrdwareguy's recommendation.

BINGO! We have a winner!

BTW, you can also set the "header/footer different first page" option under:

File>Page Setup> Layout Tab

This feature has been available since I started using Word 97.

Curses. How did I forget about the different first page. They could extend that feature to other pages though, or like make it possible to remove the header or footer from some pages while leaving it for others.

That's why they made sections, so you could do things just like that.

Sweet, never noticed that. I'll have to explore it more.
