Hard Drive Recovery
I lost my hard drive. I have been using Active NTSF Reader on a bootable disc to scan it and copy over to a USB hard drive. Any better way to recover the data?
Thanks. |
Try Spinrite, it's supposed to be amazing for what it can do.

Knoppix www.knoppix.net
I kid you not. After XP "lost" my dynamic disk mbr, the only way I could find all the files, and how they were supposed to be ordered was by using this. If you don't know linux, it's still a small learning curve to get your stuff off. Oh I should say this didn't fix the any problems in windows, but it allowed me to copy everything to another location and safely rebuild. |
Thanks. My brother knows Linux. All I want to do is get the files off. I will get a new drive.

Using Knoppix is a great way to get the files off and on to you USB drive. Make sure your USB drive is formatted FAT32, however. Knoppix can read from NTFS, but not write to it.
They were working on a fix for that at last I knew, but not sure if they have completed it yet. |
