Accessing FreeDB with PHP

I've been looking for an easy way to query the FreeDB using PHP and have come up with nothing so far. Everything I have seen bases the search off a discid and I want to search by artist, album, or song. I'm trying to build a module for my website to add a "I'm listening to ___" to my blog. Any help or other sources of this information besides FreeDB is appreciated.

take a look at the database search on freedb. check out the query string. you can just build a query string, open the file, then parse out the data you are interested in.

I considered that as an option but it's really not very elegant, though I'm sure it would work.
