Question about making an external hard drive

So I ordered a new hard drive from Tiger Direct. Problem is it's a S-ATA drive, must have accidently clicked that instead of the ATA drive.

No big deal, but is this going to fit in most hard drive enclosures? I don't really know anything about either, so is it even going to matter?

And could someone maybe pick out some good compatiable enclosures?

Thank you.

As far as I know, a SATA drive has the same physical dimensions as a regular ATA drive, it's just the connectors that differ.

But do most enclosures have connections for both?

I haven't bought one, yet.

If the enclosure says it works with "ATA133/100," will that work? Or what am I looking for?

You will need something like what is found at http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...155-101&depa=0. Make sure it says "External SATA Hard Drive Enclosure", SATA being the important part.

closures in not to sure about.. but why not swap that with your current drive.. well if your motherboard supports it.. sata's are great drives.. insanely fast installing times on them.. and they're just getting started with them..

Ahhh, shit. Guess I made a mistake than. Already been shipped, too.

Motherboard doesn't support it.

This does not rock.

It's going to cost me 30 bucks to return it, too. Shiat.

Is there an adapter I could possibly use?

Someone on another forum told me to buy a SATA controller card that fits into a PCI slot.

Thats the solution I was looking for.

End of story here.

Sorry, I would have suggested that but it seemed to want an external enclosure .

I still do. All of the cheaper enclosures that support SATA, don't have USB or Firewire. They have a SATA to SATA connection.
