Pocket Pc - Software suggestions and a lot more..
YES,
I got an HP IPAQ H2200 series POCKET PC FOR FREE* FROM SCHOOL ! *offer expires upon graduation, late may 2005. Must be returned then, in proper condition, yadda...yadda...don't break it...Basterd terms do apply, this is microsoft after all..... i actually received this for ap french class, so we can read books and stuff on it; though over the past 2 months thus far, we've only used it for two assignments.. [Somehow we got a technology grant for them, all this, when cleveland public schools are about to cut all after-school extracurriculars due to budget cuts... ] So, after letting this ppc sit in my battery charger for weeks, I'm wondering - what good software/games/fun things can I do on this ? [open-source, free, as in beer, preferred] Any other spiffy things ? One thing that I've discovered, to my joy - is it's functionality as a mini i-pod, without ogg support. [it has a 512 MB SD Card] If you have an IPAQ or any other Pocket pc, feel free to share your software suggestions, tips, info, resources. Thanks, keyshawn  |
Outside of games ;-), what things would you like to do with it?

- If you can write software, you can freely download Embedded Visual Studio from Microsoft. You can write simple Embedded VB apps, or complicated Embedded Visual C++ apps.
- If it's a newer PPC (which it sounds like it is), then you can easily play emulated games with it. I've seen emulators for anything ranging from Quake to Lucasarts games to Nintendo and MAME. - Given enough horsepower, it can also play movies. Of course, you will need some kind of large storage card, and you will need to re-encode movies to a smaller format. But it's very doable. Hell, I watched Anchorman and Van Helsing on my old Jornada PPC on my recent trip to Detroit. |
