Selecting a Palm expansion card...
 

Hi.

I've just now ordered myself a palmpilot. I am in pharmacy school and they've got really cool software that is like 15 textbooks that can all be loaded into your palm for use in dosing, drug info and all that neat stuff. I'm excited! Anyway the one I selected was this one:

The PalmOne Tungsten E. Fits me quite well. Middle of the line, some spiffy features, color, lots of fun. Anyways, the entire Drug stiff is 40 MB. The tungsten only comes with 32 MB memory. Obviously I need more. I anticipated this. I was thinking a 128 MB or even 256 MB so I can load lots of fun stuff on it.

Problem is, I don't know what to buy. Palm sells some on their site, but they seem more expensive than elsewhere. CDW has some on the page for the tungsten E that seem ok..but I'm not sure about the brand. It was Simple Tech I think. So here are my questions.

Can anyone reccommend a good brand?

Does anyone know where I can get a good price? (I have been looking around at newegg.com)

Are all these types of cards compatable or do I need a certain special kind?

Normally I am a nerd with this tech stuff but when it comes to PDA's I am fairly ignorant. :confused:

Any multimedia card or securedigital card will work.
Kingston is a good company, and the price can't be beat.

Plams cards have been riddeled with problems themselves.
I have the T|2 and love it.

Might I sugest the following software as mandatory?
Palm Adobe PDF reader (becuase nowdays teachers love pdf files as reference notes)
Of course, Documents to go.
MMPlayer for keeping a few mp3's going on the bus or between class.
Payoff Plus, for keeping track of credit debt and the interest you pay every month.
Yaps, for securing a list of your passwords under one master password protected program
YAUC, for every conversion ever known.

Ive had really good luck ordering cards from www.ecost.com

I've got a Kingston SD 512 from there at a reasonable price over a year ago. Prices are much lower now. Also have purchased 3 compact flash cards for my digital camera form there. Never a problem.

I ended up going with a kingston. The 512 MB SD card had a $15 rebate on it this month so I splurged and got that. Arch13, I think some of that software is supposed to come bundled with it, but I'm not sure. I've got an an mp3 played so I'm not terribly worried about that, but if I would have anticipated buying this then I probably wouldn't have bought the mp3 player...oh well. Anyway, I'm writing down everything you reccommended and whatever doesn't come with it I'll look into getting.
