So what is your favorite virus scanner?

I prefer what Trend-Micro offers (their free Pc-cillin), but I was wondering what all of you use? I gave up on norton and mcaffee awhile ago due to their constant update expense and horrible phone support.

I use AVG, because it's free and it does a good job.

McFrosticles 01-09-2005 06:52 AM

AVG all the way

I use eTrust EZ Anti Virus. I used to use Norton, but I think their AV is too bloated. I tried AVG for a while and it was ok, but I did get a virus that it couldn;t handle. Switched to EZ, no problems since.

I started using AVG 7.0 yesterday and it found a virus that Norton hadn't found earlier in the day. I'll keep it so long as it continues to work.

Another vote for AVG. I use it on all of my systems.

I tend to stay away from the BS websites, so I'm not much of a test.

I put it on my wife's best friend's PC, who dowloads crap from Kazaa all day and it has caught a lot of stuff. She always complains to me how many notifications she gets from it. It doesn't stop her from downloading though.

I use TrendMicro Corporate. At work, I have the servers and network setup on the SMB antivirus from TrendMicro. For the linux servers and workstations, I use clamav.

For home computers, AVG is good.

Another vote for AVG. They recently had a bundled deal including kerio personal firewall - two things on my list for less than both separately.

I regularly use a free online scanner (trend micro one) as a cross check, but so far everything is sweet.

I use Norton

Panda Platinum

I use Kaspersky Anti-Virus (Personal Edition). The virus definitions get updated very regularly (usually once a day, at a minimum).

I've been very pleased with this program so far.

theFez 01-09-2005 08:35 PM

ClamWin
789

I use Kaspersky Anti Virus Control, dont know how well it works compared to others, but it seems to work ok, so im fine with it.

darkxerox 01-10-2005 02:33 AM

Does AVG have any spyware that comes along with it (since it is free)?

No, not as far as I can tell. AVG has been good to me for a while, I don't think I will be switching anytime soon. I have only had like 4 viruses ever though, so I guess I can't really make a great reccomendation.

I use Norton on all machines at work, I have the symantec corporate license with a central server to do all the updates and everything. But I installed AVG on my personal laptop cause it was free. Seems to work well enough.

Coppertop 01-10-2005 04:45 PM

I use NAV and have no trouble with it.

punx1325 01-10-2005 06:10 PM

I use NAV+Internet Security, it seems to do the job. And best of all no pop-ups!

darkxerox 01-11-2005 02:21 AM

Hmm well I will have to give AVG a try then! Thanks guys.

zero2 01-11-2005 01:00 PM

I have AVK 2005 w/ the RAV engine and KAV engine on my laptop.

I use Mks_vir & Kaspersky AV on my desktop. It's a little overkill, but it works great.

Bratwurst 01-11-2005 01:14 PM

Gamers running NAV - do you disable real time scanning before starting your games? I haven't in the past, I was curious if helped speed up load times and other stuff if you turn it off.

Coppertop 01-11-2005 02:10 PM

I run NAV and do not disable real time scanning. So I guess I am curious as well.
