Quicktime + iTunes ... are you kidding me??
If you need to go download Quicktime from Apple's site, you are forced to download it bundled with iTunes if you want QT for WinXP. What a bunch of crap!

Or, you can get this. It's called Quicktime Alternative. QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files (.mov, .qt and other extensions) without having to install the official QuickTime Player. It also supports QuickTime content that is embedded in webpages.
There is also a program called Real Alternative. Real Alternative will allow you to play RealMedia files without having to install RealPlayer/RealOne Player. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm Quicktime http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm Real

Apple is trying to pull the same crap that Real did for awhile, making it difficult to get the free standalone version of their softaware. When I go to Real's site, I want to be able to see clearly where to go to get the free version of RealPlayer, and when I go to Apple's site, I shouldn't be forced to download and install two programs in order to get one.

No, I think he was saying that there's inherent problems with the MP3 compression methodology, and that just about any other codec will give you better results in both size and sound quality.

Well, questions regarding the quality of mp3 aside, this thread *is* about iTunes and Quicktime, so I think it's fair to say that the DRM nullifies any comment that using iTunes to not deal with mp3 any longer is a good thing. No matter what the merits of AAC may be when used alone, songs from iTunes music store have DRM. I'll stick with "good enough" mp3 instead - not to mention that I can play mp3s, and even oggs, in far more and more convenient places than I can play AAC.
