Registry key errors

I have been trying to download a game for my daughter and I get a message after the install.

error
registry appears to be corrupted
(display name)
catagory:EA Games
product name Harry Potter
exacutable system\hp.exe

I ran all the norton scans I can, but, no luck. I have installed one of a 3 game set successfilly. Someone suggested a reistry fix, from registry fix.com. However is scans but does not fix anything. To be honest I can't afford the 40 bucks for the full version. but the free version doesn't do anything.

Can someboby suggest a way to fix this problem free.

Thanks in advance

You need to get a game patch in order to run the game since you don't the CD. Gamecopyworld is your answer. When you run the game it checks for the CD/key for authentication.

specs please, computer OS (Win XP (w/SP2?), 98, 2000?) and full product name (unless the game is called just "Harry Potter"). You said you were trying to download the game but you have the CD? Or when you said "download" did you mean "install"?

I don't know about any registry fixing products but I would stay away from them like the plague. My guess is that like most of the products advertised to "Fix Windows" and such it is garbage.

I would try and walk you through backing up and deleting the registry key that points to the game in question but messing around in the registry can be hazardous to your OS so before we go there I want to see if it is a known issue (hence the request for more info)

Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

When uninstalling follow these instructions (from the EA Games website):

1. Delete the games directory. By default this will be C:\Program Files\EA Games\Harry Potter. Then delete Harry Potter from the start menu as well. By default this is Start->Programs->EA Games->Harry Potter

2. Now load the registry editor. Go to Start -> Run -> type in "regedit" (without the quotes).

3. There is a registry folder that causes this and must be removed. It is found in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\

You must then select and delete the folder name below found in that above location:
{3F50AF3B-8997-4916-0095-99D63DDB785A}

Delete this folder, then close the registry editor, and reinstall the game.

XP pro, Harry Potter and the sorcerer"stone. Sorry I should have said install.
I can't uninstall because after it goes through the insall I get the error and when I click OK, it goes away (meaning that it is not installed and just stops running)
The disk was part of a three part set, the last gam "quidditch World Cup" installed fine. So, do I uninstall the one game of the three that works?

Belkins, I was told that if I remove "system\HP.exe" then hit F3 and follow the string deleting everything that has that exact name it might work. However I have also been told that fucking with the registry keys in XP can be fatal.
