speaker problems
I have a problem with my speakers here at work. It's not all the time, it seems fairly random actually but once in awhile everyday lately I get a crackelling sound coming from the speakers. I listen to radio paradise all day and it kinda sounds like a traditional radio just off tune a little. THe real kicker is that when I turn the speakers off, that doesn't eliminate the sound.
Any ideas? Are the speakers just shot?

Wait... You turn the speakers off and they are still making noise? How is that even possible?

My cell phone causes nearby speakers to pop and sparkle every once in a while. It really wigs the speakers out when I make a call or my phone rings. My car speakers make a noise about 3 seconds before my phone rings if I put my phone in a particular spot. It really hits home as to why they don't like you using them on airplanes when it happens. |

Very strange. No noise right now, just got to work. I seem to notice it later on as the day wears on.

Are they hooked up to your PC? Check the connection to the PC sound card. If it feed off an amp (powered sub woofer), turn both PC and amp off. It might be picking up the noise from your PC. You can dust off the PC (use air hose/compressor if you have one) while you're at it.

Also make sure no electrical cables are wound around speaker cables...best to keep them as far apart as possible.

Is your phone a Nextel? I have noticed that my Nextel causes a lot if interference with speakers, even from far away. Sometime if I got into a bar or restaraunt that is playing music loudly, my phone will cause some interference, especially when someone calls me.

It isn't the provider, just the cell phone. When I get a cell phone call I can hear disturbance in my speakers around 2-3 seconds before I get the actual call.

if you turn your speakers off and it doesn't elimate the sound? are you talking completely or just a low hum. some speakers still resonate at a low low frequency if they're still getting power fed to them, but no sound signal, my subwoofer gives a low hum that you can just feel when it's on with the computer off.

Obvious: make sure the cable is pushed all the way into the speaker jack on your soundcard. It might be breaking up because the signal is coming and going.

Well, I was super busy at work yesterday so I didn't have a chance to play around with the speakers. I didn't hear any crackelling either but I was away from my desk a lot of the day.
