CD Rippers?
Cd Rippers? Does anybody know where I can find one that works quickly, not at a really slow pace. I'm not planning to download or share, I just want to rip my cds and put them on my MP3 player. Thanks.

I prefer CDex, as it does an excellent job with everything you throw at it, and is fairly simple to use (needs a bit of configuration to get started, but that's easy). I'd generally recommend you use the LAME plugin for encoding, and stick to the -alt-preset-standard setting. It encodes to mp3 format, and that particular preset contains a number of tweaks to ensure you get excellent quality while keeping the filesize relatively small. Stay away from Windows Media Player if at all possible. It'll rip to WMA format, which can be difficult to play in some portable players or on some systems.

http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ is probably one of the best windows rippers, uses freedb to look up stuff...the ripper is very good with correcting problems with the disc (scratch etc.) and you can use any file type you wish as long as you have the encoder program. (lame, mpc, flac, ogg, monkey audio, aac (faad2).
edit: anything that uses cd paranoia should be fine too....

I played around with the ripping portion of Winamp 5 (paid version) and it's pretty painless. I had Musicmatch Jukebox back in the day, but I now prefer Winamp.
I'll be spending a lot of time with it now, too, since my hard drive containing all my music bit the big one the other day... So I have a stack of CD's waiting to be re-ripped now. :-/ |

I use either Winamp 5 or Cdex, pretty much interchangably, but if I had to pick one, I'd probably take Winamp, as it seems more likely to get the right cd/track info.
