Win 2k3 server ?
OK I just got a copy of windows 2003 server. Know what do I do with it? What’s it good for? What can I do with it? Which of the three versions (Enterprize, standard or web ) is best? I Have Three computers and only use two of them. I thought about running win 20003 server on the third and using it as the server. Should I host pictures for the web on the third computer or run a quake 3 server? Is win 2k3 server good for running my own website out of my house? Which of the three versions should I use and for what purpose?

I use mine for filesharing and simple web hosting. I think configuration is simpler in 2003 than 2000 and is therefor more useful --
for the gaming server you will always need good cpu + good bandwidth + adequate memory. otherwise, the standard will serve you well enough, and is very simple to set up |
I have a server running Windows 2003 (beta actually) that's a T-Bred 1800, 512 mb of ram. It's got a web server (hosts 3 low-traffic websites), and a file server, but mostly it's used for a game server (counter-strike). Haven't had a problem with it yet. As long as you have the CPU power, you can multitask.

You can use Win2k3 for running your website, but if you are using IIS, Microsofts web server software, make sure to stay on top of the security fixes and patches. |

One, sign up for the release candidtae on MS website. Two, attend a MS event and tell them you are an IT Admin. |
I use it for the terminal services and it used to be a file server. I feel bad about using it for just that, because I'm not anywhere close to taking advantage of its features and capabilities. Also, I use it as a workstation when I know I shouldn't be.
