movie requires lisense to view
 

So i downloaded a movie that the site allows me to view for up to 30 days and then it disables the movie, much like a rental except the movie is stored on my hard driver and is not streaming. So my question any one know a way to view the movie w/o needing the lisense, so that I can keep it for a long long time? W/o the lisense ( which i lost when I reformatted) it won't open at all in WMP. It also won't play in VLC. ANy help. Thanks.

The best way to view a movie for a longtime without a liscense is to buy it ;)

your pretty much sol unless you buy another liscense, or buy the movie in retail format.

There's two things you can do:

1) you can spend a lot of time talking with people who know how to crack this kind of thing, spend more time learning how to do it and where to get the software/scripts to do it or,

2) you can either buy the movie or forget about it.

I don't care which you do, although I would definitely like to see someone get paid for the movie, even though I am not a fan of big studios or big recording companines who, in the long run, rape the consumer AND the artists that they say they are supporting.

However, if you think this is an issue, wait until Digital Rights Management (or DRM as was already mentioned) starts to affect web site, word processed documents, and even applications on your computer. DRM is the thin edge of the Trusted Computing wedge that will make computing in the near future a much more expensive and controlled experience than anything you can imagine right now. If you think I'm paranoid, check out some of the Websites already dedicated to fighting TC (trusted computing) and read what they say about it. It's a BAD THING, and it's coming to a computing platform near you soon.

I would need some more info on the movie...what format, what player is required, and a sample file...


The_Dude, It's ALWAYS crackable their will never be DRM that determined people will not crack.
DVD meet dvd jon (mplayer, xine, totem, etc etc)
itunes meet dvd jon again (vlc, playfair, hymn)
autorun.exe meet the shift key (or a different OS)
drmed wma's... loop analog cable from speaker to line-in

to answer your questions, its an mpeg file,and the lisense required comes from some windows update site. It doesn't require a certain player but wmp is recommended and here is a link to the site. O and yes its porn:)

There was a proof-of-concept breaking of WMV DRM a while ago, called FreeMe, but the vulnerability has since been patched. The only way I know of right now to un-DRM movies is to play them back and recapture, either through screen/frame capture programs or putting the video output back into an unprotected video input (I don't think much hardware supports MS DRM... Music players, maybe.)

I have faith that some method will arise as these things become more prevalent. People won't stand for not being able to control their own media.
