Comcast Internet News Settings
I'm temporarily on a family members comcast cable modem connection, but can't for the life of me find the NNTP settings for newsgroups so I can use Free Agent or Outlook Express, etc. The Comcast website is useless.
Anyone know what the news server NNTP address is? Does it require login? |
Google gave me this:
Comcast High Speed Internet» 1.4 Newsgroups Q: How do I apply for newsgroup access? (#7302) A: Comcast does not have their own News Servers, they use Giganews. You must sign up for this FREE service. To do so... o Go to »www.comcast.net o Login with your primary account info, and click on Member Services. o In the middle, click the link that says: - Sign Up for Newsgroups o Down at the bottom of the page click on the sign up button. o Enter your Full Name, and the Comcast Primary User Name. (The Comcast Primary User Name is the usually the first email account that was setup.) Click the YES's that you agree to the Agree To Policies and then the Enable Account button. You will receive an email in the Primary account that has an Account name and a password. Also it will include the News Server address. Use this information with any NNTP client such as Outlook Express (see here for instructions) or Agent. Also, you can go here. http://online.comcast.net/giganews/ |
Dammit. I'm not the primary account holder and I'm not likely to get that info from the primary person. Shit on toast.

Real answer: Bullshit, they have their own news servers, which they still run, and work ... okay. They are fast, but the retention leaves a lot to be desired. netnews.comcast.net No username or password required. |

I think your mileage may vary. It's gonna depend on your area. If you are not on the right section of their network, you aren't going to be able to access that server. |
