WinXP mouse pointer too slow?
I like to have a very sensitive mouse because I strive to have the mouse pointer move with as little effort from me as possible. If I could, I'd have a neural interface with my computer so I just have to think commands and they happen.
Anyway, it looks like WinXP has gone the way of the Mac (once again) and made their mouse pointer so slow that even on full speed, I still find it rather sluggish. Win2000's mouse pointer was way too fast at full speed and that's the way it should be! What happened to flexability? Does anyone know how to increase the mouse sensitivity in WinXP, beyond what is possible with the default install? Does anyone else feel the same way about their mouse pointers? |
Which Mouse software are you using?
I know Intellipoint 5 had trouble with Firefox scrolling and the latest one (5.2 i think) has a lot more features. Probably better speed. Have you turned up the 'acceleration' too? |
Jesus. I have mine set 2 or 3 notches from the max and it's perfectly fine! Any faster than that and my performance would start to go down drastically. I know that having a lower resolution makes mice appear to move slower so increasing the resolution may help out a bit. I'm still baffled that the default Windows XP max is too slow for you.

To tell you the truth, it was a gradual thing. Start off with something just a little bit more sensitive than you're used to and, eventually, you get used to it. Then, you increase it one notch more (literally), and use that until you get used to it, etc... But now that Microsoft has lowered their mouse sensitivities, I feel like I'll develop carpal tunnel syndrome using this thing... |
Okay, I'm really starting to get pissed off. I'm developing carpal tunnel syndrome and, for some reason, progress means less choices.
Out of all the geeks who frequent the TFP, is there no one who appreciates a "psychic mouse?" Is there really no way to increase the mouse speed in WindowsXP? I'm very dissapointed... Thanks for all your help... |
What kind of mouse is it?
Just curious, what kind of mouse is it? Is it a problem with the OS, or the hardware? Also, back in the Win98 days, I found that using a PS/2 style mouse was faster than using the same mouse in the USB connector. Maybe because the PS/2 port uses hardware interrupts, or because USB is so busy.
|
Also, is it a ball mouse or optical? I have no idea which is faster, but maybe try the opposite of what you have now and see if you notice any differance. Are you using something differant than what you were when you use Win2000?
