AGP Driver Problems
After I finsh installing XP Pro. I can install all of my drivers, all of my motherboard drivers, and everything will run fine ( I've actually been running for 2 weeks now, with slow video ). If I ever install my AGP driver ( which is included with the rest of my mobo drivers ), once I restart, my monitor goes off, and my computer reboots. Sometimes my computer won't reboot, but my monitor will just say "out of frequency", and go off.
I'm running: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ SOLTEK SL-K8AV2-RL 1 WD 7.2k 40GB 1 Seagate 7.2k 200GB ATI Radeon 9600XT Does anyone know how to fix this? Or what the problem could be? I've tested the video card on other PCs, and it works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

It's an 8x/4x. Gosh, that looks nice
Sounds like the video card is trying to get the monitor to display what it can't display. Most likely it's a "refresh" rate. I would check to see if windows xp recognizes the monitor properly not some "standard" or "plug and play" crap. If it doesn't find out who makes your monitor, find a driver for it and install. Once you do, you have the option of hiding all the settings your monitor can't support. If this is indeed the problem, it will avoid further outbreaks of the error. Once that's done a re-install of your AGP drivers (or better yet, download new drivers) should get you going. Hope this helps....

Right. There are no video options in safe mode.
Why are you in safe mode? Your pc won't boot up any other way? Even if you can't change any settings in safe mode, you should still be able to uninstall the AGP drivers giving you trouble or install a driver for the monitor. If the fix does indeed work then you should be able to boot normally and then re-install the AGP drivers on the disc or download new ones and install them. You mentioned running "slow video." I assume that was with a normal boot. You could always try going into the device manager and uninstall or delete the monitor, re-boot, and see if XP works it out itself. I need more information. Without knowing specifics this is the best I can do. good luck

I discovered the issue. It had something to do with the VIA chipset AGP driver having issues with my motherboard. How I fixed it was that I had to install SP2, and use the default SP2 AGP driver, and now I'm able to run at 8x, like I'm supposed to. Thanks for trying to help guys.
