Need new graphic card
As winter is approaching, I would like to invest in new graphic accelarator.
I planned on buying a Radeon 9800 Pro which costs about 200$ now. But two days ago I read an article about the new X800 series, which are twice as fast but also twice as expensive. Also a new series is o the market now, the X700 which is a lighter version of the x800, but therefor u need a new technolgy on your MoBo, doesn't connect any longer through AGP but??? I like nice graphics, but it's not necessary to play games at max detail level (prefer medium level and a higher frame rate) Any suggestions on what to buy. Other Alternatives are always welcome. The Radeon 9800 Pro would be a good choice. Make sure to get the 128 MB, 256-bit version though! The Radeon X700 Pro series is only out in PCI-E form instead of AGP as of now. That's supposed to change soon. If you wanted to wait, waiting for the X700 Pro to debut in AGP form would be a good idea too!

6600gt is also going to be out for agp soon, you might want to look into that. It should be around $200, but a lot better than the 9800pro. I'm gonna be getting a new videocard soon as well, I'm gonna upgrade from my GeForce2 MX 400 to a nice shiny new 6800gt. Boy I can't wait

Geforce 5900 can be had for around $140 - 170. Radeon 9800 would be effectively the same I suppose. Unless you have a specific need for the power upgrade, you may just want to wait until PCI Express becomes more mainstream, or even for the BTX formfactor to be finalized (assuming they don't take 3 years to do it).

The 6600 GT is also a great choice, but the X700 series simply pulls ahead at the price range. Both are still not out in AGP, so the short-term choice is obviously the Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB 256-bit. When the X700 and 6600 series come out in AGP form then gamers will have two very good videocard choices.
