Pentium 4 2.8512K 533FSB Lite ON DVD +/- /R/RW Maxtor 120GB u133/7200 Kingston 512MB PC2700 C2.5 NON ECC DDR Windows XP HE Viewsonic 17" PF775b Lexmark all in 1 X5150 Wireless K/B Mouse To me it's a great system. Overall it was about $1000 and worth every penny. Just have to learn how to burn CD's and find a better audio card or speakers (have MSI PC MEGA Speakers, everything sounds like it's in an echo chamber).

I enjoy the ability to access everything I have all the time anywhere in the world, so I set up the following config:
1. ROUTER Dual PPro 200mhz, 128MB RAM, 20G hard drive. Runs Slackare 9.1, and hosts my BitTorrent tracker, a samba server, a print server, and runs folding@home in its spare time. 2. FILER/Main server T-bred 1466Mhz (1700+) on an Abit KT7A, 1G PC133, 20G system drive. 4x 160G seagate barracuda drives in a RAID-5 array (433G useable space) Runs Slackware 9.1, and hosts my NFS, NIS, HTTP, FTP, Mail, and Shoutcast servers. Here's a pic of the server setup (filer on the left, router on the right): 3. DESKTOP Barton 3200+ on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe, 80G sATA hard drive, water cooled, yadda yadda yadda. See the pics. This system also runs Slackware 9.1. Here's one of the pics (see link above for more) 4. MEDIA computer T-bird 1400Mhz, 512MB RAM, Windows 2000 (roommates can't handle linux). Plays movies/MP3s from filer quite nicely. The router, filer, cable modem, and switches are all on UPS power, constantly monitored by apcupsd. Since the filer is constantly on, and is NFS-accessible (or samba-accessible from windows) at all times, I can access all my data (documents, web pages, MP3s, videos, pr0n, everything) from any of the computers in the network. It's a sweet setup. I like it. Last edited by skaven; 10-11-2004 at 08:49 PM.. |
