Spam from someone I know.
I got some weird spam today from a guy I used to work with.
It was typical spam in that the body of the email was just "Here it is!" With no signature or salutation, I think the subject line was just "hi." It came from a hotmail account of a guy I used to work with, I know it was from his email cause I still have this guy in my MSN Messenger list. What is weird is that it didnt come to my hotmail account, rather it came to my ISP mail account with I manage with Outlook 2003. So far as I know this guy never would have known my ISP email address. Now I don't think that Nick (the guy) really sent me the spam, if he had been trying to trick me direcly I think he would have addressed me personally. But isn't it a weird coincidence that a spammer spoofed the hotmail address of someone I know? Incidentally, the attachment to the spam was a zip file with a fake doc file (which I deleted). The file name was: webpage.txt .exe (tons of spaces before the exe extention) |
Chances are that Nick got some kind of worm virus. Some viruses will send SPAM to everyone in your address book. If Nick's email was spoofed, he probably unknowingly sent SPAM to everyone he knows. God damn hackers.

hahaha, well be careful there my friend, i know alot of hackers that aren't virus writers. the vast majority of hackers are just curious, with no malicious intent what so ever. There really is a difference.......
or i could shut up and stop being retarded.......... |
It came from Hotmail? Advise your friend to get a more secure email account.

A lot of viruses get the address book, and use one address for "From" and one address for "To" - it could actually be from any third party that has both of you in their address book.
I have had people accuse me of having a virus because they got virus mail from me, which I never did have... |

I've gotten one from a friend before. It was almost exactly like that.
Turned out to be some virus. |
