email errors

So suddenly I can't send emails larger than 5 or 6 kb; my pop3 server responds with

"Task 'pop3.web.de - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC67) : ' The server responded: 421 smtp05.web.de SMTP incoming data timeout - closing connection.'"

I remember solving a problem like this once, but can#t remember how I did it (being too lazy to keep notes....) Anyway I've tried tweaking my MTU and stuff, but nothing has worked yet.

Can anyone help?

Ah yes: XP Pro / Outlook 2003 / DSL modem plugged directly into an ELSA WLAN Access Point / Desktop with Wlan PCI / Laptop with PCMCIA Wlan (email works fine on the laptop....)

Thanks, but been there and done that. Unfortunately, it's not just email that's screwed up. Certain web pages refuse to load (*.php) and 'Net performance seems generally compromised. So I s'pose it's more of a networking problem, a subject that remains for me a book with at least 7 seals. Any network knowledgables in here?

are you running a firewall that's maybe messing things up?

plogger 10-02-2004 07:32 AM

Yeah, but I disabled 'em (Zonealarm & Win XP Firewall) to no efect. What's odd is that certain sites load just fine, and dslreports benchmark shows outstanding throughput, other sites (ie., lokitorren.com) just never connect. In fact sometimes only certain pages within a site cause problems. For example, I have to go to my laptop to post to TF. With the desktop, I get as far as "post quick reply", the 'puter responds with "Sending request to www.tfproject.org", and that's all she wrote.......aaaaarrrggggh, indeed.

Perhaps if I replaced my wireless access point with a wireless router???
