Dish Network and TV tuner cards- solutions?
While in my favorite computer store today I was looking at the ATI TV Wonder cards and wanted to know if they worked with Dish Network. There were solutions there that said that they would, but not this particular one.
So here is the question? Are you using your computer as a Tivo-like solution with Dish Network? ... and what is the solution that you are using? Thanks, GoogleMeister |

I do use my computer as a TiVo, but I have cable, not satellite. However, the recording software I use, BeyondTV, has a support forum where I often see people mention their satellite setups. I never pay much attention to how it is set up, because it never really mattered to me, but you could look into it and see how they are getting it to work possibly. A search through the knowledge base and discussion forums over at www.snapstream.com couldn't hurt, in any case.
I'm not saying you'll need to buy the software (though it is one hell of a program, as I can atest), but maybe you can get some ideas into how to put together your own recording solution from what other people have done. |

As I understand it, you'll need to buy a DVB card for use with Dish/Bev. I haven't set one up yet, but I've done a fair bit of reading. The Hippauge cards get excellent reviews.

If you are asking "will the ATI-all in wonder decode dishnetwork?" , then no.. however, it comes with software taht will allow you to record videoinput to the harddrive, thus acting like a tivo... you can record off of dish, but you will have to set it up automatically. If you are wanting to do so automatically, do some reading at www.maestra.tv

I actually have one of those cheapo TV wonder cards in my PC, and Dish Network.
You can't have the PC change your channels or take the place of your satellite receiver, as mentioned above. I set the ATI tuner to channel 3, and use one of those wireless video senders (I got mine for about $20 on eBay) to send audio/video from one of my receivers to the computer. It's not perfect, but it works fairly well. You just have to manually change the channels on the receiver. |
