Music players other than winamp, with specific features...
 

Hey,

My winamp crashes every few hours and it annoys the hell out of me. I'm looking for another player now, with two specific features.

Most importantly:
*In winamp I use the Blueamp plugin, which allows me to control it without actually going to the winamp window. This means I can change songs/volume/pause while surfing, or in a game, without alt-tabbing.

Would be nice:
*Music search: this isn't NEEDED, but the ability to hit 'J' in winamp, type a name, hit enter -- and listen to the song in 2 seconds is nice. I had winamp 3's music library and all this clicking and crap. This would just be nice but I don't need it.

Have you tried Winamp 2.9 if you're using 3.0 or vice versa? 2.9 is not really a downgrade as the numbering wuold seem to suggest.


Unfortunately I've never not used Winamp for more than a few days to try out others and decide I didn't like them, so I can't really make any recommendations.

strange. winamp 3.0 has been acting weird for me too. i havent been having the same problems. but whenever i run winamp the damn thing doesnt even show up. maybe theres still bugs in 3.0?

winamp 3 is icky

2 is much better

I'm having this problem using winamp 2.91...

I don't know about fracturedmind, i think he's using 3

I'm not using Winamp 3 I can't stand that, I was using 2.8 (and 2.9) -- not using trillian though, just old fashion AIM

Sadly, this problem doesn't seem to occur on Winamp3. But, Winamp3 sucks and takes forever to load....

I think i found the program for us. Quintessential Player, or QCD. Has searching and a hotkey plugin. Can be found here, along with plugins.

Works without errors too!

one other nice thing about qcd player is that it plays cd's properly without gaps between songs, so if you have tracks which blend together, everything's groovy

i haven't been able to get qcd to work with my aardvark card though
