Weird Firefox problem, desperate for solution...

Hi guys,
I've never posted in this forum before, but I'm having a problem I can find no solution for. Since two days ago, every time I click on a link in Firefox (both 9.3 and 1.0PR) my processor usage spikes to 100% for a few seconds (pausing everything going on on my computer) while the page loads and then goes back to normal. It's very pronounced on TFP pages and TotalFark, less so but still present on all other pages. I've not installed anything new, scans show no adware, spyware or virii, and it doesn't matter what else is running (tried with nothing else, with video playing, with ABC BT client running, etc.). I cleared the cache and cookies, no luck. Turned off java in the browser, no dice. Any ideas what the problem could be? I've scoured the Mozilla forums, posted and got no response...it's bugging the hell out of me and I've not been able to pinpoint what's causing it.

I used to have a similar problem back when i had McAfee antivirus because it took so long to scan all the files that my browser (IE at the time) was downloading. Uninstalling McAfee and getting a decent antivirus fixed it.

I had some glitchy problems with an earlier version of FF that required me to uninstall and reinstall the browser to correct them. In fact, just re-installing didn't cut it, as I recall. I had to totally eradicate the program directory and re-install before the problem went away. You might want to give that a go...

A few possibilites come to mind, fany sites that use flash seem to be causing cpu usage to spike in firefox. The other option could be that you have some extension installed in firefox that is somehow causing this problem. It is also possible that your profile is screwed up, or it's one of those weird computer specific problems that can't seem to be traced properly.
