I just ordered two of these babies

LG 52X CD-Writer 16X DVD Combo
Asus p4p800-se
Intel® Pentium® 4 3000 1024K 800FSB S478
GAINWARD Nvidia® GeForce™ FX6800GT 256MB DDR AGP 8X (2400/Ultra Golden Sample)
512MB DDR-400
Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache S-ATA
ThermalTake 360W PSU

I bought two, one for me and one for my GF

i am using a few things (like the monitor and harddrives) from our previous PCs in here as well.

In three months, I'll buy two new monitors, and another 512MB RAM.

This is an upgrade that is WAY overdue. My Pentium III was getting dusty.

Not bad! Not too bad at all. I'd definitely hit that 6800 GT Post some scores from these bitches when ya get 'em! Just use whatever suite you can; 3dMark2003, PCMark04, 3DMark2001 - all of these will hit ya up nice.

Yeah, upgrade your power to Enermax 550W. With your graphics card you won't
have enough power to use the rest of your Hardware

The PSU is enough - I made VERY sure of that, and ThermalTake is a great brand.

Mroe RAM and new screens are in the pipeline.

Thank you.

I'll get to those tonight.

I will say however that I was playing Doom 3 last night on High with 4xFSAA and 8xAnsitropic filtering, without a single slow down.

Would be interested to see how long it takes either/both units to get through some SETI@Home units. Nice purchase.

Exactly, let me know how you go.

NB - Use the SETI@Home version 3.03 if you can. The current version 3.04 is slower as there are some extra security features.

I also agree on a bigger PSU but I'm and AMD fan myself especially when it comes to gaming.

I'd put a crappy generic CD drive in those PC's as well. Those LG drives wear out in a year given you burn something once every other week and watch a dvd every week on it.

I had one wear out in 10 months, and my brother's wore out in 8 months. The replacement that I got under warrenty for mine is still running since I use the 50x drive for all non-burning/dvd tasks.
